mel, You run about 2-3 times my frame rate in raids. You have some settings above the minimum and yet you never dipped below 8fps during the thick of heroes on Hodir. What are the specs on your comp?

2.8 GHz Core 2 duo, 4GB of RAM, and a shitty ATI Radeon video card.  For the videos I'm running at 1280x768 resolution, maxxed settings, except for shadows.  My framerate is typically around 50 until I start fraps.

Normally I run at 1920x1200 with almost nothing on, and my framerate is around 40fps, but the low texture resolution and stuff makes for ugly viewing.

I have a 3.0 GHz Pentium D (presler - dual core), 8GB ram, SLI 2x GeForce 7900 @ 512MB each.

I run my rez at my native monitor rez of 1600x1200. Projected textures are on and I manually adjust particle density per fight, usually between minimum and half. Every other setting is set to minimum or off. My frames are Xperl like yours, bars are bartender4, dotimer in icon-text mode, elkbuff bars, and boss mods. Other mods are very low resources and most are non combat. About 25fps during pre fight buffing. Im usually in the teens for 25m raid bosses, and for hard burn during heros on fights like patchwerk, I drop to 5-10. For hard burn on a graphically intensive fight like hodir, I often drop to 2-5 dps.

I feel that when fps hits the teens, character output begins to suffer significantly.

Is it just that my processor is crap? or is there something wrong that I need to fix?

WoW's graphics engine is very CPU bound. If it wasn't your SLI setup would be giving you much better performance. Pretty sure you're FPS games like TF2 run fantastic with everything turned to max.

I have a GeForce 8600GTS, 6GB ram and a Athlon X2 5400+ oc'd to 3.2Ghz. Before the 5600 I had a X2 4600+ (not that huge a difference on paper). Dalaran was almost entirely useless as it'd lag well into the single digits most the time. Averaged about 12fps.

The 5400 upgrade made quite a bit more difference than I thought it would. Now I can average 25fps in Dalaran with everything turned to max except shadows at 1280x1024. The last 25m Ulduar I ran uh.. 2 weeks ago was butter smooth, never dipping below 50 if I recall correctly. Maybe some dips here and there, but for the most part it was hardly noticeable.

Hard to say if the socket on your mobo would allow for a Core Duo chip or some type of upgrade, but for WoW you'd see more performance gain from a CPU than a GPU upgrade.

Ya i run a AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core OC to 3.0GHz, 4G of ram, and a radeon HD 4870. I run on average 35 fps in dalaran and never drop down below 60 fps in raid, while running wow at ultimate settings.

So i would have to agree with kyllin on CPU being the the best upgrade to improve wow performance.

My dell motherboard is ancient. True multicore tech wont work with it. Its limited to P4 and pentium D chips. It likely means I have to upgrade case, mobo, chip, windows(OEM tied to bios), power supply all at once.
