What You're Reading...

Since we have a music thread I thought it might be nice to have a reading thread, I'm always looking for good books and such. Include reviews and synopsis imo!
Currently, I'm reading The Hunger Games, it's not particularly well written but it is fun to read. I feel like this is a plot stolen from an anime, but the idea is a post-apocalyptic world where the elite keep the common people in line by selecting 2 kids from their communities and having them fight to the death on nationally broadcast television.

Reading the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf. Great book on eating a paleo diet which seeks to replicate closely what we evolved eating.
In a nutshell, high fat, moderate to high protein(based on atheletic needs), and low carbohydrate(not ketosis low.)
Backs up his assertions with a lot of science which is refreshing. Worth a read.

I just finished
Disgrace
by J.M. Coetzee. It's about a scandal involving a South African college professor amidst the backdrop of the social transition away from Apartheid. Sounds kind of dull, but it was actually fantastic.
Next up I will likely read the graphic novel
Habibi
. I've heard great things about some of Craig Thompson's other work, chiefly
Blankets
, so I'm looking forward to it.
The Hunger Games series just sounds awful and I don't understand why it's popular.

Currently reading the Temeraire series of novels, on the 6th book.
Basically takes place during the era of the Neopolanic Wars in which most countries with Military influence have "Aerial Corps" consisting of Dragons. Centers around a Naval Commander who ends up with an egg from a French freighter he captured and ends up in the Aerial Corps, which he finds out operates much differently than the Navy.
Overall the synopsis would be too long, feel free to check 'em out they're damn good.
Also finished the Age of Misrule series the other day.
Basically a trilogy about Celtic mythological creatures coming to earth to wreck havok because of a prophecy centering around the main character and the 4 companions he acquires along the way. If you're into Mythology at all this is a really great read.

Finishing Game of Thrones at the moment. The HBO series really hooked me and Martin's writing is masterfully constructed, as are the characters. I am also really enjoying the parts that were not able to make it into the show. Though I hope I am not alone in that almost every other sentence in the Sansa chapters I am thinking "You stupid bitch".
I am planning on reading my next few in the following order: Clash of Kings (gotta get it out of the way before the next season) -> Inheritance (final book in the Eragon series (don't judge it on the movie, it's not that bad)) -> Hunger Games (hoping to also finish this before the movie).
I will probably get current with Martin's work after that and then finish the Hunger Games series if I liked that.

Umbertto eccos. The name of the rose. Masterful plot though it gets a bit flowery in places

Well played Speakeasy.
I just reread Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan (WoT book 13) in anticipation for a March release on the final, but I'm retarded and don't read blogposts. A Memory of Light pushed back to Holiday Season 2012.... fml

Fifth book of Song of Fire and Ice, The Universe in a Nutshell, and The Hunger Games.
Also, it's the time of year where all of the major appellate court decisions are handed down, so I'll always stop whatever book I'm in the middle of to read those.
P.S.: If anyone wants to talk Constitutional law, I love it more than anything in the entire world.

I thought I would update:
I finished Inheritance, thought it wasn't as strong a book as Brisinger but he finished it well enough. I don't want to discuss my misgivings in great detail unless you've read the book as well.
I read Catching Fire and Mockingjay (aka the other Hunger Games books). I found then to be solid writing and characters. The author was rather devious in making it hard to put the books down at the end of the chapters, leading to me finishing both books in only a week (which was only about 4 days where I actually picked up the books). The books get progressively darker as they go, to the point where the last third of the last book is very hard to read and the last 2-3 chapters are rather gut wrenching.
Lastly I finished Storm of Swords. Holy shit.
I mean: Holy. Shit. Can this man write a story or can he write a fucking story? Martin has some magical ability to make me care about characters I never found interesting prior to them becoming POV characters, to make me feel sorry for someone I had no pity for in the first book; to drag me kicking and screaming to side of a character I previously reviled.
I mean, shit, with all I know about Littlefinger, as much as I distrust and hate the man, he still tricked me into thinking maybe he did have a soft caring side when it concerned Sansa during the snowy courtyard scene. Well, that'll teach me I guess.
I've just started Feast of Crows but I doubt I will get much reading done until after I at least have my presentation for my summer class done but even if I don't start until mid August when the class ends I should have it done before fall semester. Sadly that leaves be a book behind my goal for the summer, with Dance of Dragons likely sitting on a shelf until winter break.
